    Universal Wellness New Developments

    Hello Friends,

What an awesome season we are in!  Nature is going through magnificent, breath-taking changes.  Some of us will soon have a little fun with make-believe.  Although always is the time to be thankful, many of us have a special holiday to remember to express our gratitude.  Then, of course, the year will end with special celebrations that are joyous and meaningful to us.  Enjoy!

If you are near me (Nokomis, Florida USA), I invite you to join a new class I am starting at Constant Motions.  Start out Tuesday & Friday mornings with a lovely stretch and transformational relaxation class.  Contact me for more details.

Are you ready to manifest quantum shifts in your life?  Might you like support with this?  Wherever you are, Telephone Wellness Coaching could be just right for you.  If you are unfamiliar with how it works, please Click Here!  Remember, a Gift of a Complimentary Consultation is available to determine if this avenue is appropriate for your personal needs.

How are your nutrition habits?  Are you eating all your fruits and vegetables your body needs for maintenance and repair?  I'm still helping folks with that utilizing the well-researched nutritional support system, Juice Plus.

Remember, your life reflects what you most focus on.  For some entertainment on the more positive side, I encourage you to check out the Spiritual Cinema Circle.  With your subscription, you receive monthly movies that are both uplifting and thought provoking.

I am still enjoying and recommend products from Seriesse International.  It is a cutting edge skin care line, enriched with vitamins and engineered with science, started by Jennifer Flavin Stallone (yes, wife of the famous Sly).  For those who feel their wellness includes this kind of care, please visit my Seriesse "store".  This line also includes a fantastic nutritional support system.

Last but not least, thank you for everyone who has purchased Orthotic Sandals from me.  More about that later.

Thanks for allowing me to share my news with you!
    Love & Light,

    Michelle

Having Challenges With Your Wellness Program?
Here Are Some Ideas To Help You…….

    STICK TO IT!

    1. Vary Your Workouts
Get a new perspective by hanging upside down!  Simply bending at your waist and allowing your torso to hang over (knees bent of course) is a great way to boost energy and improve blood flow to the brain.

    2. Schedule Times / Days To Work Out
For example: Exercise immediately after work, three times a week.  Setting times to exercise will help you create a regular schedule while realistically reaching for your long and short term goals.

    3. Keep A Journal To Record Your Progress
A journal is an effective motivational tool and a great way to see improvements.  Studies show that ongoing record keeping can help you adhere to a regular exercise program.

    4. Include Activities That You Enjoy Doing
You don't always have to be in a structured exercise class.  Biking, walking, golf  and playing volleyball : are examples of leisure activities that also promote health and fitness.

    5. Set Realistic Goals
Avoid setting yourself up for failure with unreachable expectations.  Plan your program with realistic goals in mind, and then reassess and monitor your progress on an ongoing basis.  Modify your goals as your fitness level changes.

    6. Consider Working With A Personal Wellness Trainer
It's often easier to stick to an exercise program if a fitness professional supports you, even for a short time, to help you develop a regimen specific to your particular desires.  While some people prefer the ongoing guidance of three times a week, others meet with a trainer once a month for a motivational boost and monthly fitness check up.

    7. Join A Gym
But do some research first.  Join a club that has facilities and offers activities that are pleasing to you.  Tour several clubs and investigate their offerings before selecting yours.

    8. Progress Slowly
Remember to gauge how you are feeling during exercise.  The old adage "no pain, no gain" doesn't apply here.  If it hurts, stop.  Avoid doing too much too soon.  This can help avoid injury and muscle soreness.

    9. Work Out With A Partner
It can be more fun to exercise with a companion.  Also, you're more apt to stick with your exercise regimen if you know someone is waiting and depending on you to do it.

    10. Reward Yourself
Buy concert tickets or a new outfit after reaching your goals.  Plus, take time to review your exercise calendar for well-earned "pats on the back".

How to Stave off Colds, Influenza and Infectious Diseases:

    Steps You Can Take

Late summer is nearing its end and as Fall quickly approaches you may feel a (slight) cool breeze moving in from the water.  Yes and before you know it the holiday season is upon us.  Now is the time to prepare your immune system to prevent illness this fall and winter.  Prevention is key!

When you first feel yourself becoming sick there are things you can do to avoid it entirely or to shorten the duration of illness.  These suggestions are especially helpful if you do them early on - as early as possible!  They will help you fend off flus, colds, and/or minor infections.  As the only dual degree physician in the gulf coast area, (Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine as well as Doctor of Oriental Medicine), I am honored to have this opportunity to share a few easy suggestions that just might keep you well all winter.

Eat Very Lightly or Not at All - With most illnesses the appetite is diminished, this is a natural response of the body.  Energy is needed to fight off the "bug" and the body won't have the energy it needs to properly process the food.  Give your digestive tract a rest!

Get Rest as Soon as Possible - Many people ignore the early warning signs of illness and keep on working until they "drop."  You will take longer to heal if you allow the illness to get a foothold.  If you feel a sore throat, headache, congestion, etc., coming on, take it easy.  If possible, take a day off from work.  This may prevent you from having to take three days later on.

Drink Plenty of Fluids - This standard advice is good advice.  You can clear the toxins from a "bug" out of your system with large amounts of filtered water and herbal teas.  There are many immune stimulating teas in the stores these days and if you need help just ask!

    Take Immunity-Boosting Supplements and Homeopathics*

    • Vitamin C: Take 500 mg every 3-4 hours with a small amount of food.  Cut back on dosage if stools become loose.  You may take Vit. C to bowel tolerance (loose stool), some people go up to 10G/day and others less.  It is interesting to know what your tolerance level is for future reference.
    • Vitamin A: Take 10,000 IU three times daily.  (Women who are pregnant should not take high doses of Vitamin A as it can have adverse affects on the fetus.)
    • Zinc: Take 30-50 mg once daily with a small amount of food.  This can be continued for 1-2 weeks without depleting copper stores in the body.
    • Oscillococcinum: Take 6 pellets of this homeopathic remedy every 6 hours at the first onset of flu or cold symptoms.  Take away from food.  Alternately, you may take 3-5 pellets once every week during cold/flu season.

Take Immunity-Enhancing Herbs* - These herbs can be taken as teas (3-5 cups/day), tinctures (30 drops 4 times a day), or in freeze-fried capsules (2 capsules 4 times a day).

    • Echinacea (Purple Cone Flower)
    • Mahonia (Oregon Grape)
    • Commiphora Myrrha (Myrrh)
    • Trifolium (Red Clover)
    • Ligusticum (Osha)
    • Hydrastis (Goldenseal)

*These are adult dosages.  Consult your physician regarding dosages for infants and children.

Finally, at home Hydrotherapy treatments are easy and effective!!
Give Yourself a Home Hydrotherapy Treatment for example a hot foot bath - Soak feet in hot water while body is wrapped in a warm wool blanket.  Put a cold cloth on your head and relax while you sit in a comfortable position for 10-15 minutes.  Take care to avoid getting chilled after this treatment.  Or there are many other hydro treatments that may be more appropriate for what you have going on specifically with yourself.  Please feel free to visit my website at www.geocities.com/drjessicalipham for more information regarding my practice and philosophies.  I am open to discussing specifics about this article to anyone serious about prevention!!!!

    Do You Know?

Orthotics Can Be Comfortable & Stylish!

Most people could benefit from custom orthotics (a device that assists in proper alignment of the foot enabling the whole body to be in better alignment enhancing smooth body function).  Custom orthotics cost $200 - $300 and up sometimes.  I have those too.  However, I only wear them in my athletic shoes which I'm not about to wear all day.  So a terrific, fashionable way to support my alignment is with comfortable flip flops and sandals.  These are an affordable alternative and more practical for my lifestyle.  Perhaps they could help you have happier feet too?!

Eventually I will have a link from my website for this.  In the meantime, please check out www.orthoticsandal.com.  Check out all the styles available.  If you see something you like, don't order there!!!  Place your order with me and you will get $10 off the online price.  Please call me 941~480~1373 or e-mail me .   By the way, if you are a gal and see "men's sizing" on a style you like….just order one size smaller than you usually wear.

    Spotlight Exercise

Can't Sit Still?  Meditation (Back by Popular Demand)

Have you ever wanted to meditate but felt that you couldn't do it "right" because you couldn't sit still?  You'd start squirming and fidgeting or your eyes wandered?  Perhaps you would physically be still but your mind was racing one hundred miles an hour with to-do lists, past experiences and future worries.

Here's an idea that has worked for me and might resonate with you as well.  I often practice Moving Meditation.  While my usual method is running, I recommend most folks experiment with it walking.  The key is to be mindful…be in the moment.  Here are things you may wish to focus on in your practice:
    Your Breath
    Your Heartbeat
    Your Posture
    Your Body Mechanics
Your muscles, organs, bones etc. all working in synchronicity
Appreciation of the beauty of your surroundings
    Gratitude
    Love
    Joy
    Oneness with all
Listening with inner ears ~ Being open to receive guidance and inspiration from God, our Angels, the Universe, Our Higher Self

Another fun way to practice Moving Meditation is through dance.  Again, the most important element is remaining in the present.  Being.  Notice what your body is experiencing and what you are feeling NOW.
