Personal Success Guide

Personal Success Goals

We all need to set goals, or intentions, on our path to success. If we don't know where we want to go, any road will take us there. Below you will find some characteristics of successful goal achievement you may wish to adopt as your own.

  • Write It Down - This makes it tangible, not just wishful thinking
  • Be Specific - Describe your desired result in detail, making it as real for you as possible. Believe it can happen! If you can see it, you can achieve it!
  • Make It Measurable - Generalities like walk farther, be thinner and weigh less are weak. Be more powerful with goals such as walk 2 miles, wear a size 10 or weigh 150 pounds. Then you know and can celebrate when you've actually reached your goal.
  • Date Your Goal - Somehow, when we set a goal date, it gives us more incentive than if it is just "sometime in the future". Keep in mind to be lovingly flexible with yourself if this date needs to be adjusted.
  • Be Realistic - Choose a goal that goes beyond your comfort zone but is within range of your confidence to achieve. Or have a great attitude that matches the saying "Shoot for the moon for, if you miss, you'll still be among the stars".
  • Have Passion - Know in your heart why you want to accomplish this thing. Remember it needs to be what you want, not what others want for you. Have and cultivate a burning desire to achieve it.
  • Act "As If" - Carry yourself, dress, speak and act as if your goals are a reality now. Your actions will work to accommodate your beliefs.
  • Seek Encouragement and Support - List people, resources, groups and organizations that can positively assist you in getting your desired results.
  • Enjoy the Journey! - While we do want to enhance our life through the achievement of goal, remember the journey is our life and aim to enjoy every step of the way. You are where you are and where you are going to because this is your choosing!
